What It’s Really Like to Work with a Recruiter (The Inside Scoop)
This week on Landed Not Handed, we’re flipping the script and featuring one of our own - Erin Crews, MSOL.
Get the inside scoop on what it’s really like to work with a recruiter from someone who lives and breathes job descriptions, interviews, and the whole hiring journey. Plus, top job tips and a peek behind the curtain of life on the AlloHire team.
What is your "why" behind recruiting?
My number one “why” is my family. I aim to align my life with God's will for me, grounded in faith and family. The Lord has blessed me with the gifts of discernment and administration. When combined with my passion for connecting with others on a deeper level, genuinely helping people, and matching talent with opportunity, these gifts naturally led me to Recruiting. A mentor once advised me to find a career I would still love even if I weren't paid for it. I can confidently say that, whether compensated or not, the joy of connection and helping all thrive excites me. I truly love what I get to do and consider it a privilege to positively impact others on their personal journeys.
What do you wish more job seekers understood about recruiters?
As a recruiter, I am in a position of influence, but I am not the final decision maker on your selection. This creates a unique opportunity for partnership between the candidate and the recruiter, and I welcome and invite that partnership. Let’s do this together.
What’s one mistake you see candidates make that’s totally avoidable?
At times, I’ll speak with someone who might lack self-awareness and is unable to articulate what their journey has looked like up to this point. Take the assessments. Seek feedback. Do some self-work that ensures depth of understanding of the person you spend the most time with - yourself.

Who has been one of your favorite hires? Why?
It's impossible for me to pick a favorite, but the common thread among those who stand out is that they maintained a connection after the interview, approached our relationship as a partnership, and showed up with both confidence and authenticity. I appreciate those who trust that what’s meant for them will be theirs. They are vulnerable, true to themselves, and their courage in embracing that makes them memorable.
Why do you work with AlloHire?
AlloHire aligns naturally with my values, and we partner with companies that share those same values. In my childhood, I played year-round competitive softball, which instilled in me tenacity and grit, and winning was one-sided. Thankfully, through maturity and mentorship, I learned that I don’t have to choose between relationships and results. My mindset now is that everyone can win. AlloHire's business model aligns with that. With my scope of work at AlloHire, I get to build authentic connections and advocate for both the candidate and client. Everyone wins. Pinch me - I am truly blessed.
What’s your top piece of advice for candidates?
Stay ready so you don't have to get ready.
